Visit Shri Jagannath Puri – the Sacred Land Where Lord of the Universe Dwells

Puri, commonly known as Jagannath Puri, Purushottam Puri, Shrikshetra, etc is one of the most sacred pilgrimage Places in India. Being one of the four most sacred places in India (Char Dhams), Puri is a beautiful coastal town at one hours picturesque drive from Bhubaneswar – the capital city of Odisha (Orissa). 

Shri Jagannath Puri Temple is the main attraction and the sacred site to explore. Constructed in 11th Century, Shri Jagannath Puri Temple is a large temple complex that has some interesting stories associated. In the temple, the Darubrahm (statues) of Lord Jagannath (Lord of the Universe), Balbhadra and Subhadra are worshipped. Every year in the months of June-July, world-famous Rath Yatra (Chariot Festival) is also organized. The huge chariots (Rath) of Shri Jagannath Prabhu, Balbhadra and Subhadra are pulled by the devotees. Do lean against the Shani temple and watch the summit of the temple and do savour the temple Mahaprasada. 

Bhog or Prasada or the temple food is cooked in seven pot put on each other. The entry in the temple is restricted to Hindus. Every years, hundreds of thousands of devotees from across the world come to pay homage to the sacred place.

Apart from Jagannath Puri temple, Puri is also known for its beach and some wonderful attractions in surrounding areas like Konark that is famous for Sun Temple (UNESCO World Heritage Site). 

There are numerous other temples and attractions in and around Puri to explore during your tour. 

How to Reach?
Puri is well connected via rail to all part of the country. There are regular trains from New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai and other cities. 

Shri Biju Pattnaik Domestic Airport in Bhubaneswar is the nearest airport to reach Puri. The distance between Jagannath Puri and Bhubaneswar is 65 km that takes one and half hour. 

There are regular buses from state transport corporation from different parts of Odisha. The road connectivity is also wonderful connecting it to all main cities of India.
